Supply chain modelling and carbon footprint insight for a global apparel brand
Issue
The client, a global clothing brand, desired to have an insight into its carbon footprint and the opportunities to reduce and offset it.
Approach / Recommendations / Actions
Spring Associates modelled the extended supply chain of the company, and identified the areas of biggest concern. We did not limit ourselves to carbon, but took a more integral approach regarding the sustainability of production and marketing. The conclusion of the work was that clothing brands need to take responsibility upstream, particularly in cotton sourcing and in dying (especially jeans), but also leverage their customer relationships, since it is the customer that uses the most energy during the lifetime of the clothing (washing and drying). We extensively analyzed best practices in this regard, and came up with recommendations to improve.
