Ebel has an MSc degree in Philosophy from the University of Leiden, and an MBA from INSEAD. He worked at Booz Allen Hamilton for six years, established several companies, and held different management positions at Lost Boys. Matthijs has an MSc in Experimental Physics from the University of Amsterdam and an MBA from INSEAD. He worked as a strategic consultant at Booz Allen Hamilton for six years and had previously established and run his own company (online consumer research and consultancy). Besides his work for commercial organizations, Matthijs Baan is involved with several social initiatives, such as the taskforce “Laten We Nederland Mooier Maken”. Furthermore he is consultant to new companies and two health foundations.
Lodewijk received his MSc/Engineering degree in Applied Physics at Delft University of Technology and did his MBA at INSEAD. He worked at OC&C Strategy Consultants for six years, co-founded Adnovate (a web- based innovation in the printed media industry), and was responsible for Business Development at Stork Product Engineering. At this company, Lodewijk experienced that many commercially viable innovations, for various reasons do not reach the market –. He decided to work on bridging this innovation gap with a clear focus on sustainability. Within Spring he found like- minded entrepreneurs. At the CLI in Utrecht Lodewijk completed the reading and healing training, and he is involved in the production of Electric Scooters and the Prius Plug-In conversion kit.
Femke studied Industrial Design at the Technical University of Delft. She worked at Reed Elsevier as a publisher of medical magazines for eight years, was a manager of the scientific search engine Scirus (www.scirus.com), and initiated various e-learning projects. Her most recent position at Reed Elsevier was Director Innovation of the Science division. Before that, she had held a business development position in a pharmaceutical company. For this company she set up a partnership with the VU (Amsterdam).
Ronald joined Spring Associates after having worked with Royal Dutch Shell and Booz Allen Hamilton. He has a mechanical engineering degree from Delft University of Technology and an MBA from INSEAD. Within Spring Associates, Ronald is a project manager, who leads projects for established and start-up companies, mainly focusing on energy and renewables. Furthermore he manages two Spring ventures, which are focused on biofuels. In his free time he likes nothing more than running the administration of his fitness & physiotherapy centre where he is a silent partner.
Cas has worked for Spring since 2006 and has been involved in business development and consultancy for companies in various sectors that are subject to regulation, mainly in financial services. Cas studied Dutch Law at the University of Amsterdam, with a specialization in the European energy industry and the unbundling of the Dutch energy market. Cas spends a lot of his free time in Amsterdam’s cultural life. He has wide interests: from theatre and modern art to house music and haute couture. In addition, Cas is an avid sailor and gifted footballer.
Florian joined Spring Associates in 2007 after having finalized his double degree in mathematical economics (both operations research and actuarial sciences) from the University of Amsterdam. With this background he is exceptionally skilled in modelling and analyzing. Florian works for both large clients and new ventures, with the financial services industry as his area of expertise.
Maarten started working at Spring Associates early 2007. In the preceding years he worked as a researcher at SEO Economic Research of the University of Amsterdam. He has master degrees in Economics and Philosophy and hopes to finish his doctoral thesis (economics) later this year. At Spring Associates his focus is on (corporate) venturing, overall strategy and biofuels. He likes old books, the theatre and listening to and making music.
Edze joined Spring Associates in 2006. At Spring Associates Edze mainly focuses on providing strategic counselling for multinational companies operating at the public-private interface. He is also increasing his experience with building start-ups and ventures. He has a Master’s degree in Political Science and prior to this, he worked at ABN AMRO and as a sous-chef. When Edze is not working he loves to play music and listen to music, cook or play sports.
Frank joined Spring Associates in 2007. Since then he has concentrated mainly on business development for renewable energy start-ups and the Chinese market for renewable energy. Frank worked as Spring Associates’ representative in Shanghai China for six months, managing a biomass start-up. Frank has a degree in International Law. Before joining Spring Associates he worked for a large Dutch newspaper and for a Dutch current-affairs magazine. He once pursued a career as an opera singer at the Conservatory of Rotterdam, but in the end he became part time DJ in clubs in Amsterdam.
Jocelyn joined Spring Associates in 2008 after having assisted with the start-up of a student job agency and a magazine. She has a background in Political Science and Economics. Within Spring Associates she has been focusing mainly on the Publishing Industry and the Pharmaceutical Industry.
Linde Zuidema graduated in Constitutional and Administrative Law (with a minor in Political Science) from the University of Amsterdam. During her studies she was a trainee at the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe, and at the European Parliament. Besides this, she founded and presides a social foundation, and she works as a secretary at Spring Associates. In the remaining time she likes to do all kinds of different f things, her latest hobbies are skiing, making a photo-reportage and modern dance.
Maarten studied Chemistry at Utrecht University, specializing in renewable energy, and graduated with a Master’s degree in Science & Business,. He joined Spring Associates in 2008, and his main focus is on energy projects and business development. He plays rugby in Utrecht, goes skiing as often as time allows it and loves karaoke. Next to that he takes on a bigger challenge once in a while, with the reconstruction of his house being the latest.
Michiel has a Master’s degree in Science in Petroleum Engineering from the Delft University of Technology. He joined Spring Associates after having finalized his degree and focuses on operational modelling, commercial modelling and business development. In his spare time he is a bass player, and you can find him performing with his jazz band around the country, if he is not out for a surf session in the North Sea.
Mirte graduated in Applied Mathematics (with a minor in Mathematical Physics) at Delft University of Technology. She started working with Spring late 2007, where she works as a consultant mostly on energy-related projects, which both satisfy her analytical skills and provide social and political challenges. During her studies, Mirte was co-founder and designer at an amateur graphic design company. Furthermore, she plays hockey at a high level, and loves to sing.
Stella graduated from Wageningen University, the Netherlands. She studied Agricultural System Management and System and International Horticulture and Marketing at the university. She joined Spring Associates in July 2008 and focuses on business development in Chinese renewable energy and the agricultural market. Furthermore, she is part of the operational team of Phoenix Bio Energy, a Spring venture. She is based in Beijing as Spring Associates’ Manager for China. In her spare time she likes to play tennis. She loves singing and cooking as well.
Marloes graduated with a Master’s degree in International and European Law at the University of Groningen. She worked as a legislative lawyer for the Dutch government, during this period she was posted to Strasbourg to work for the Council of Europe as part of an exchange programme. After this she decided to obtain another Master’s degree in Information Law at the University of Amsterdam.
Wim de la Rue is a graduate from the University of Life, in Valladolid. Wim is selective in his liking for people, so he is happy with his gatekeeper role, as an associate under the front desk. Before moving to Amsterdam, Wim worked at Gaz Natural in Bilbao.
